As some of you may know Trae (my manager) is leaving. On more than one occasion I have been asked to fill an authority position. Every time I declined. I just really don't want the headache of being the boss. There are of course pros and cons.
Pros
more money
the chance to put Manager on a resume
having the control
I would have a great crew
things wouldn't change much because I like them the way they are!
Cons
having to deal with all the random crap
being in control
having to enforce rules I'm not a big fan of in the first place.
WAY MORE HOURS
having to clean up messes
I've always been happy being someones right hand. I don't know how I will feel about it once I become the head honcho.
So my question is: "What would you do?"

Okay, I am gonna go ahead and assume that you have either been offered the job, or Trea wants to recommend you for it. That is not a bad thing. I too have always been happy being the right hand gal, never really wanting to take the reins myself. I can totally respect that. However This comes down to what is more important to you. Liking this job but assuming more responsibility, or maintaining your current level of responsibility and possibly no longer liking your job. No one can answer that for you.
I think it would be good for you, allow you to become more secure with your own decision making. It could help you with some of your fears regarding parenthood. Giving it a shot would not be the end of the world. Just maybe see if you can do it for a probation period or something. Like after 90 days if you want to stay you can, but if you were happier being one of the normal workers, then you should reserve the option to return to your former position.
Keep in mind that this is only what I think, and you should really do what you think is best for you.
Much love girl, good luck!

Heather Feather you would make an awesome manager! I know that it's kind of scary to think of taking on more responsibility, but you would really rock, I'm 100% sure of it. As far as the "way more hours" is concerned, well. . .it might suck for a little while until you get used to it, but you were just saying how you haven't gotten too many due to low customer volume and it sounds like you guys could use a little extra cash. Not only that, but it will help you to create a little nest egg for when you do have a baby. You just never know what will happen when the little bugger shows up. I just quit my job so that I could stay home (AAAHH, still freaking over that a little). Anyway, the point is, I am sooo glad that I took on more responsibility before I left because we do have awesome savings now and can afford to have me home. Plus, as you said, having the extr a title on your resume is worth a lot in the long run. I think it would be an A++ move. And yes, I'm fully aware that I'm a dork. : ) Good luck with whatever you decide, keep me posted! : )
i gotta go with the majority here and say--take the job. i've always resisted too, but it's ended up being a good thing for me to take on more responsibility. jobs are hard to come by lately, and if you want to back off later, you always can.
I say take it! It never hurts to try. Look at it as a learning experience. Besides, we all know you can do it.
I think you should go for it!!! What if you decide not to go for and then you will be wondering if you could have done it. I know you will be a great manager! Since you already love the people you work with, this is a great opportunity to become a manager...1. you know the people already 2. you have your boss now that is probably more than willing to help you and lend you advice 3. gives you are little more money before you start having kids 4. this is a job you love anyway so you know you will love being a manager there
I think you should just do it!! You moved to Washington...bought a house...a new car....got a great job you love...why not just do it? You are in a great place in your life right now and I think you're ready :)
I think you should do what you think is best for everyone involved. Do you think you'd be a good manager? Do you think you could handle the stress? Do you think you'd be better than someone who' never worked at that studio before? But at the same time do you think you'd dislike having the authority to hire and fire? Or dish out the hours to the people who should be there? Or to tell customers that they can't yell at your employees for doing their job?
I KNOW it'd be a pain, believe me. But I think that you could continue the good service and customer satisfaction that Trae has built since he got there. PLUS, I'd love to have you as my manager... teehee << gotta throw in the selfish bit. But seriously, do what you feel is right.
Heather, I'm not the best with advise and I think everyone has given you more than great opinions! I really think you should go for it. I think you feel like you want to but are afraid of the outcome, but I think it will turn out great! You're are an awesome person for the job. I think the Pros outweigh the Cons, if you ask me, by far. Good Luck with it all!
Take the job!
